Let the baking soda sit for 5 minutes and then pour 1 cup of vinegar and 1 cup of hot water down the drain. This will create a foaming chemical reaction in your pipes that can help break up the clog. Then use a hose to run water down the drain as you retrieve the cable. The pipes themselves are usually all right but how you clear the pipes depends on location and what type of drain you re working with.

To use an at home mixture start by pouring a pot of boiling water down the drain and then pour cup of baking soda down the drain. If the sink does not drain the clog may rest farther up the pipe. Unscrew the connectors on the pvc pipe that holds the p trap the curved piece of pipe to the vertical and horizontal drain pipe. This will often take care of things.

A drain that runs sluggishly or is completely stopped up is usually clogged with grease soap hair or a solid object. First unscrew the screen from the tub drain and use a bent wire to fish out any hair and soap scum. If you notice that one or all of your drains are backed up and very sluggish it could indicate a vent issue. At the very least a clogged main sewer drain pipe may cause wastewater and raw sewage to back up through a floor drain into the basement or floor of an hour home.

Call your local plumber to find out if it s due to a clogged drain vent or something else. Check the drain trap for clogs. If the main sewer drain is clogged it can eventually back up all of the drains in the house which is why such a clog can be so serious. When a plumbing vent gets clogged it can t regulate the air pressure within your plumbing system to keep things flowing properly.

To clear a clogged drain with vinegar allow all of the water to drain from the sink then pour vinegar and baking soda lemon juice borax or salt down the drain. If you can remove debris from the trap reconnect it then run water into the sink. If you have the time and energy after boring through the clog clean the sides of the pipe by attaching a finishing tool to the cable and running the full length of the cable down the drain. If there s a pop up drain on the tub raise the lever to the open position then grab the stopper and pull it from the drain hole.
